How to Play:

1. Prep the Cards: Print on cardstock or patterned scrapbook paper to prevent see-through cards. Laminate for durability so they last through years of use.
2. Choose the Center Pile Format: Select the format your students find most challenging for the CENTER pile. Matching to easier formats in their PLAYING piles strengthens connections.
3. Set Up the Game: Place CENTER cards face down in a pile in the middle. Deal PLAYING cards equally among all players.
4. Start the Round: Flip the top CENTER card. Players take turns flipping from their own stack into a discard pile.
5. Make a Match: If a PLAYING card matches the CENTER card (matches can be symbol-to-definition, example-to-symbol, etc.), the first player to slap it wins the discard pile.
6. Keep Playing: Continue until time is up or one player has all the cards.

Variation Ideas:

• Beginner-Friendly: Start with only punctuation symbols and their names. Add definitions and examples as students are ready.
• Progressive Learning: Introduce common marks first, then gradually add more complex punctuation.
• Memory Match: Use one copy each of two formats to play traditional Memory.
