This Large Number Place Value War Card Game gives students a fun and engaging way to practice comparing multi-digit numbers and reading numbers to the millions place.
Whether they’re working on number sense, building place value fluency, or just love a good card game, this math center turns big number practice into a fast-paced competition that kids ask to play again and again.
How to Play the Large Number War Card Game:
- Deal the cards. Split a full deck evenly between two players and place cards face down.
- Flip and compare. Each player flips their top card at the same time, then compares to see which number is greater.
- Collect the cards. The player with the higher number takes both cards and adds them to the bottom of their pile.
- Have a tie? It’s WAR! Each player lays down three face-down cards, then flips a fourth. The highest number wins the battle.
- Play until someone wins. Continue until time runs out or one player collects all the cards!
