Turn reading practice into a laugh-out-loud competition with CVC Word Bump! Games!

This interactive literacy game makes CVC word families and short vowel practice so much fun that kids forget they’re learning.

Each spin of the spinner gets students reading, matching, and racing to “bump” their opponent’s marker off the board. It’s perfect for developing phonics, decoding, and short vowel fluency through hands-on play.

You’ll love how easy these file folder games are to prep and organize. Your students will love how exciting they are to play. Together, that’s a win for your literacy centers all year long!

How to Play CVC Word Bump!

  1. Spin the spinner to reveal a word.
  2. Find the picture that matches the CVC word.
  3. Place a marker on that space.
  4. If another player’s marker is already there, “Bump!” them off the spot.
  5. If your marker is already there, stack a second one to “freeze” your space.
  6. Continue until all the pictures are frozen.
  7. Count your frozen spaces... the player with the most wins!

The directions are simple enough for students to play independently, yet engaging enough for small groups or partner centers.
