I Spy "Flip" Board Game: Habitats Grassland Animals
Bring the wonders of the grassland habitat into your classroom or therapy sessions with this exciting I Spy Board Game: Grassland Animals Edition!
Kids love racing to spot lions, zebras, elephants, giraffes, and more as they strengthen vocabulary, attention, and visual discrimination skills through play.
This game transforms traditional “I Spy” into an engaging, interactive experience that supports language development, fine motor practice, and science connections to savanna ecosystems and biomes.
Whether you’re exploring animals of the grasslands in a science unit or simply need a high-interest literacy and sensory activity, this resource will become a go-to favorite.
Instead of worksheets, your students will be scanning, matching, and shouting with excitement as they spy their grassland animals first and win a token for that round.
Perfect for small groups, therapy sessions, or indoor recess, it blends fun with meaningful academic and social learning.
What’s Included in the Grassland Animals I Spy Game
- 10 colorful I Spy game boards filled with diverse grassland animals, trees, and habitat features
- 40 I Spy image cards featuring lions, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, vultures, warthogs, monkeys, and more
- 20 printable tokens to reward correct answers (or swap with mini erasers, bingo chips, or counters)
- Step-by-step teacher directions with multiple ways to play, from fast-paced races to quiet independent matching

- Articulation Practice – Target animal names during speech therapy sessions for clear sound production
- Visual Discrimination – Strengthen attention to detail while students scan boards to find exact matches

How to Play
- Choose one Grassland Animals I Spy game board and place it in the center.
- Deal the image cards face-down in a pile to each player.
- On each turn, players flip their top card at the same time.
- Race to “spy” the matching animal or habitat picture first!
- The first player to spot it wins a token for that round.
- Continue until all cards are used. The player with the most tokens wins!
Flexible Ways to Use
- Speech Therapy or Occupational Therapy – Reinforce articulation, vocabulary, and scanning skills
- Literacy or Science Centers – Add excitement to your unit on grassland animals and habitats
- ELL / ESL Support – Use clear animal visuals to build vocabulary for English Language Learners
- Homeschool Learning – Simple prep makes it easy to use at home for hands-on science and literacy
- Indoor Recess or Early Finishers – A screen-free, high-interest activity that keeps kids engaged
Bonus Play Options:
In independent play, a single student works through the deck of image cards on their own. They flip one card at a time, search for the matching picture on the game board, and cover it with a mini eraser or token.
This option is perfect for building focus, visual scanning, and vocabulary skills without the pressure of competing against others.
In parallel play, two students each have their own I Spy game board and set of cards. They play side-by-side, flipping and matching cards at their own pace.
This approach works well for children who need personal space, are just beginning to join group activities, or who thrive in a more relaxed, non-competitive environment.
