I Spy "Flip" Board Game: Real Life Bugs and Insects

Got bug lovin' kids? Bugs and Insects I Spy 'Flip' with real photos adds a fresh, hands-on twist to your bugs and insects theme! Get kids looking closely, thinking carefully, and talking about what they see while working on essential visual skills.

Students flip a bug or insect card, search the board for the matching picture, and collect tokens as they play. It feels simple for kids, which is exactly why it works so well.

They practice visual discrimination, visual scanning, vocabulary, item recognition, and attention to detail without needing a long explanation or complicated setup.

How to Use This Real Life Bugs and Insects I Spy Board Game

Step 1: Prep the Game Pieces

Print the game boards, image cards, and token cards. Laminate the pieces or print on cardstock if you want a more durable center activity. Cut apart the bug and insect cards and tokens, then store the pieces together for quick setup.

Step 2: Choose a Board and Set Up the Cards

Place one I Spy game board in the center where all players can see it clearly. Give each player a small stack of image cards placed face down. For younger students or learners who need more support, use fewer cards to keep the game manageable and successful.

Step 3: Flip, Search, and Match the Bug Photos

Players flip the top card from their stack, look closely at the real photo, and search the board for the matching bug or insect. The first player to find the match earns a token for that round.

Continue playing until students use all the cards, time runs out, or one player collects a set number of tokens.

For a cooperative version, let students work together to find each picture. This option works well for mixed-ability groups, speech therapy, OT sessions, younger preschoolers, and students who benefit from extra practice with confidence and turn-taking.
