Standards for Early Math
This pack supports early math standards connected to counting, matching and patterns.
Common Core State Standards
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4: Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality. Kids count and add that many monster parts.
- CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP7: Look for and make use of structure. Kids find what repeats in each pattern.
Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines
- PK4.V.A.2: Child counts up to 10 objects with one-to-one correspondence. Kids count each monster part.
- PK4.V.E.3: Child recognizes, duplicates, extends and creates patterns. Kids continue each monster pattern.
Virginia Standards of Learning
- Math K.NS.1.a: Use one-to-one correspondence to determine how many are in a given set. Kids count each set.
- Math K.PFA.1.b: Extend a repeating pattern by adding at least two complete repetitions of the core to the pattern. Kids keep each pattern going.
Pre-K Pack: Monster gives preschool and kindergarten kids a set of silly monster activities for counting, matching and patterns.
Kids play spin and cover, clip numbers, find matching pairs, build 3-piece puzzles and patterns, then roll a die to build or draw their own monster.
Roll a Monster is a favorite: kids roll for eyes, arms, legs and more and add that many parts. Every monster turns out different.
How to Use Pre-K Pack: Monster
- Print, laminate and cut apart the cards and puzzles.
- Pick one activity to start.
- Kids count, match or build patterns with the monster cards.
- Roll a Monster: roll for each body part and add that many.
- Kids tell a friend about their monster.
Math Center: Set out one activity each day.
Art Tie-In: Draw a monster from the rolls on the drawing page.
