Standards for Numbers and Color Words

This flower color by number set supports early math and literacy standards connected to recognizing numerals and reading color words.

Common Core State Standards: English Language Arts

  • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.K.3.C: Read common high-frequency words by sight. Kids read the color words in the key on every page.

Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines and TEKS for Mathematics

  • PK4.V.A.5: Child recognizes numerals 0-10. Kids find each numeral in the picture and match it to the key.
  • TEKS K.2(B): Read, write and represent whole numbers from 0 to at least 20 with and without objects or pictures. Kids read each number before they color.

Virginia Mathematics Standards of Learning

  • K.NS.2.a: Read, write and identify the numerals 0 through 30. Kids identify each numeral and color the space to match.

Flowers Color by Number gives preschool and kindergarten kids number recognition and fine motor practice as they color by the key to reveal a hidden flower picture on every page.

Each page hides a flower picture. Kids color by number and watch the garden bloom.

Each page has a color key at the top that pairs a number with a color word and a crayon. Kids find a number in the picture, check the key and color the space. Little by little, the hidden picture appears.

The pages are no-prep, so they work for morning work, math centers, early finishers or a calm activity at the end of the day.

How to Use Flowers Color by Number

  1. Print the worksheets.
  2. Read the color key together and match each number to a crayon.
  3. Kids color each space with the color that matches its number.
  4. When the page is done, talk about the picture that appeared.

Small Group: Color one page together. Kids say the number and color word before they color each space.

Independent Practice: Add the pages to a math center, morning tub or early finisher bin.
