  • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.K.6: Name the author and illustrator of a text and define the role of each in presenting the ideas or information in a text. Kids find the author and illustrator.
  • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.1.5: Explain major differences between books that tell stories and books that give information, drawing on a wide reading of a range of text types. Kids find books from different genres.

Scavenger Hunt: Parts of a Book gives first through third grade kids two hands-on hunts for learning about books and the library.

Kids draw and label the parts of a book, like the spine and the illustrator, then hunt through the library to find a book for each genre.

The genre hunt is a great way to start the year in the library or a classroom library.
